Change Subtitle Speed

Need the subtitles to run faster or slower to match a re-encoded video? Stretch or compress every timecode by a factor — right in your browser.

100% in your browser — your files never leave your device.

How to change subtitle speed

  1. Step 1

    Add your subtitles

Paste your SRT or VTT, or upload the file.

  2. Step 2

    Set the speed factor

Enter a factor: less than 1 makes subtitles play faster (earlier), more than 1 slows them down.

  3. Step 3

    Apply & download

Click Apply — all timecodes are scaled. Copy or download the result.

When to use this

  • The video was re-encoded or stretched and the subtitles need to run proportionally faster or slower.
  • Example: factor 0.96 speeds subtitles up by ~4%; 1.042 slows them down by the same.
  • If you know the exact frame rates instead, the FPS converter is the precise tool.

FAQ

What factor should I enter?

The factor multiplies every timecode: 0.95 makes subtitles ~5% faster, 1.05 makes them ~5% slower. If you know the source and target frame rates, use the FPS converter for an exact value.

Does it change the text?

No — only the timing is scaled; your subtitle text is untouched.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Need to translate your subtitles too?

Fixing timing and merging is free here. When you need to translate subtitles into another language with the timeline kept perfectly aligned, that's what SubtitleFlow does.
