The formats explained
What is TTML / DFXP? (Timed Text Markup Language)
XML-based captions with timing, styles and positioning. Converting to SRT retains text and timing but removes advanced presentation styling.
What is SRT? (SubRip)
The most widely supported subtitle format. Plain text with numbered cues and HH:MM:SS,mmm timecodes — it works in almost every video player, editor, and uploads straight to YouTube.
Why convert TTML to SRT?
- Turn XML-based TTML captions into SRT for video editors and players.
- Text, start/end times and explicit line breaks are kept. Fonts, colours, regions and screen positioning are not preserved.
FAQ
Which files can I convert?
Text-based TTML and DFXP files, including .xml files containing TTML.
Which time formats are supported?
Clock time, offsets, frames, ticks, begin/end/dur and relative timing in parallel containers. Times are rounded to SRT millisecond precision.
What about complex subtitles?
Timed words/spans, sequential containers, clock/SMPTE time bases and image captions are not supported yet. Unsupported input produces an error rather than a partial file.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser, free and without signup.
Need to translate your subtitles too?
Converting is free here. When you need to translate subtitles into another language with the timeline kept perfectly aligned, that's what SubtitleFlow does.
