The formats explained
What is ASS? (Advanced SubStation Alpha)
A styled subtitle format used by anime fansubbers and Aegisub. It supports fonts, colours, positioning and karaoke through override tags — far richer than SRT or VTT, but not universally supported.
What is SRT? (SubRip)
The most widely supported subtitle format. Plain text with numbered cues and HH:MM:SS,mmm timecodes — it works in almost every video player, editor, and uploads straight to YouTube.
Why convert ASS to SRT?
- ASS supports fansub styling and karaoke, but many players, editors and YouTube only take SRT — flattening makes it play everywhere.
- Override tags ({\...}), positioning and karaoke are removed; the dialogue text and timing are kept.
- Great for taking an anime fansub .ass and getting a universal subtitle file.
FAQ
How do I convert ASS to SRT?
Paste or upload your .ass file and click Convert. SubtitleFlow reads the Dialogue lines, strips the styling and override tags, and gives you a clean SRT with the original timing.
What happens to the styling and karaoke?
ASS styling, positioning and karaoke tags are dropped — SRT is a plain format, so you get just the text and timecodes.
Are my files uploaded?
No — the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
